Begining his DJ career in 1992, Kundalini founded his university campus dance music/party club. Since then he has organised and DJ'd at an impressive list of indoor and outdoor parties and festivals.
DJ Kundalini organises DJs for Peats Ridge Festival (http://www.peatsridgefestival.com.au/home.asp), where he plays on main stage & in the famous chai/chill tent. He created & produced The Dub Shack (reggae space) in 2006 & has officially been made The Dub Shack's director for the 2008 festival.
Kundalini co-hosts Sunday night radio show Ultima Thule (http://www.ultimathule.info) on 2MBS (102.5) FM (in the top 1% globally of music podcasts!). Prior radio experience includes radio shows on Bondi FM/Radio Bondi for 2 yrs.
DJ Kundalini runs Sydney-based DJ agency Above & Beyond DJs & plays at private parties around Sydney each week, as well as guest spots at bars, clubs and festivals - and presents an ambient chillout radio program.
“To me music plays an important role – it is the soundtrack to life!
A good DJ will have an open mind & be sensitive to the crowd's needs. You’ve got to play the right piece for the right moment - the energy & mood is constantly shifting. While sometimes people need to let off some steam my intent is always to take them on positive journeys. To achieve this & keep the sound fresh I tune-in to the crowd & draw from an eclectic array of music...”
(Baroque, classical Indian, oldschool ambient, new age/sacred, world, tribal, chill, lounge, dub & roots reggae, funk/disco, hip hop, electronic dub, psy-chill, drum’n’bass, jungle, oldschool techno, electro, deep, funky & progressive house, breaks, psytrance – even 1 or 2 retro tracks!)
Lately I’ve been teaming up with a leading club sax player, a capella singers & percussionists doing funky house gigs – people dig the dynamic live touch & have been going wild when we play.
Music is so powerful, we draw it deep into our psyches, it bypasses our faculties of discrimination & influences us powerfully in ways few realise. For this reason I have a profound respect for music – especially lyrics. What seeds do you want planted in your minds & hearts?”
